Whether you love her or hate her, you must admit Paris Hilton is a cash machine. She makes so much money off endorsements and her own brand that if her family was to cut her out of her fortune, it would make little difference in her life.

Since Paris is trying to become BFF with Britney Spears again, she thought she'd offer her some advice--it was good advice too!

On Saturday night when the former pals hung out for Britney's 26th birthday, Paris took it upon herself to give the pop wreck some career advice.

Among the points Hilton made: Spears needs to cut back on her social life, she should revamp her entire management team, and, according to Hilton, ''only hire the very top agents, publicists, managers and assistants money can buy.''

A spy at the party also heard Paris say, ''Britney, you have to listen to people who truly are experts in entertainment. You can't be listening to friends, no matter how good or loyal they are, to tell you how to run your career.''

Paris also told Brit to pay more attention to the endorsement deals ''or else those will go away and you'll find it harder to replace them with new deals and products.''

Paris actually gave her some damn good advice, only problem is Britney doesn't like to listen to anyone but the voices in her head. She definitely needs a new management team though, hiring friends to manage your career has 'bad idea' written all over it.

That’s exactly what Britney Spears did Friday night after her court appearance. Britney met up with her friend/cousin Alli Sims and they both headed to Ketchup to meet with Dallas Cowboy Tony Romo(the guy that’s reportedly dating Sophia Bush).

"[Spears] walked around the restaurant into the lounge where she met up with some people," an eyewitness told People magazine. "She didn't eat or drink …[It] seemed like she was rounding up people to go to [out]. She was very friendly and smiley, in and out."

"Alli was meeting up with Tony and his friends at Ketchup and Britney wanted to come along. Tony and Alli have been good friends. They've known each other for a little over a year. "

After their short time at Ketchup Britney and Alli headed to hot spot Les Deux where they were later joined by Romo. Spears was "sitting with her friends and Tony. Everyone was just hanging out. Brit was upbeat, really seemed fine."

Only a year ago, Hot Britney Spears was the toast of the entertainment world after dumping her husband and making a triumphant appearance on "Late Show with David Letterman" looking fit and happy just a few weeks post-partum.

What a difference a year makes.

In the months that followed her sassy surprise visit to Letterman, the pop star began partying hard with Paris Hilton, was frequently photographed without wearing underwear, angrily shaved her head in apparent defiance of her mother and struggled with alleged drug and alcohol problems that resulted in her losing custody of her two baby boys to a man most assumed was the deadbeat parent of the ill-fated union.

But observers say Spears's stunning fall from grace has unintentionally been one of the most successful public relations campaigns in entertainment history as the Louisiana-born musician has become a household name the world over.

"Everyone's talking about her, everyone has an opinion, 'Gimme More' is being downloaded by millions of people - she's huge," Elaine Lui, a correspondent for CTV's "ETalk," said Tuesday in an interview from Vancouver. "It's been the mother of train wreck PR campaigns."

Seth Feller, president of the Toronto-based Word of Mouth PR, agrees.

"The kind of coverage that she's been getting over the past year is more than anything I've ever seen for any artist ever," Feller said.

The brisk sales of Spears's single, "Gimme More," seem to be proving the veracity of that old PR adage "there's no such thing as bad publicity." The song is the first single from her upcoming album "Blackout," slated for release on Oct. 30, and has been an iTunes darling since August.

The infectious dance song was still No. 1 on the Canadian iTunes website on Tuesday and No. 3 on the U.S. iTunes list.

But no high-powered PR agent is orchestrating this wildly successful public relations blitz. Spears currently has no representation after being dropped by her latest agent a few weeks ago - she's apparently ensuring she stays in the public eye all on her own.

The dawning of every day brings more sordid Britney news: on Monday night, for example, she was booked for an August accident in which she rammed into a parked car and then left the scene of the accident. Almost every day, a sea of paparazzi photograph her doing everything from filling up her gas tank to dropping by Starbucks and emerging from pricey hotels late at night, prompting many to wonder why she doesn't just stay home and avoid the melee.

But Spears is said by those closest to her to be stubbornly defiant and resistant to advice. She also apparently courts the shutterbugs who hound her - on Monday, for example, she was offered the chance to leave the L.A. county jail via a backdoor, but chose to wade back into the paparazzi throngs with a smile on her face.

Feller says that sort of behaviour is going to backfire.

"The fact that she's been literally taking the media for a walk every time she goes out somewhere has hurt the hell out of her," Feller said. "She's very much approaching the tipping point. The train eventually does stop, the wreck eventually does happen, and people are rapidly losing patience and sympathy."

Although Spears's inexplicably bizarre behaviour has come at a terrible price, Lui says, people continue to care about her.

"It's achieved a financial goal - obviously she's out there, she's got recognition, her music is selling, but at what cost? Losing her kids, losing her mind, losing her hair," Lui says.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Britney Spears' first studio album in four years will be called "Blackout," her label said. The Jive Records release is due in U.S. stores on November 13, and a day earlier internationally. The album title "refers to blocking out negativity and embracing life fully," said Jive, a unit of Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

Its first single, "Gimme More," soared 65 places to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart Thursday after selling 179,000 downloads. It marks her first top 10 hit since "Toxic" in March 2004, and her best showing on the chart since her smash debut "...Baby One More Time" hit No. 1 in 1999. Spears lip-synched to "Gimme More" during her infamous performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last month.

While her professional fortunes appear to be improving, her personal life remains troubled. Spears lost custody of her two young sons last week to her ex-husband Kevin Federline. A Los Angeles family court on Thursday issued strict rules governing her visitation rights, including a requirement that a monitor be present whenever the pop star is with them.

Britney Spears lost custody of her children after ex-husband Kevin Federline accused her of failing to take a drugs test.

The 'Toxic' singer, who was ordered by a Los Angeles court to hand over two-year-old Sean Preston and one-year-old Jayden James to Kevin until further notice on Monday (01.10.07), is said to be fuming after Kevin's legal team claimed she had missed a random drug and alcohol test.

Britney's attorney Sorrell Trope told People magazine: "There was a claim by Mr. Federline's attorney that she had not complied with a previous order the court had made - before I came on board as lawyer - about having a random drug and alcohol test.

"There's no evidence that she actually failed a test."

The court treats failure to take a test the same as actually failing a test and has scheduled another hearing for today (03.10.07).

Last month, Judge Scott M. Gordon said Britney showed "a habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol" and ordered her to take twice-weekly drug tests.

Federline, who was "thrilled" after receiving temporary custody of his sons, is yet to comment on claims Britney missed a test.

Monday's custody decision was also made because Britney couldn't provide a California driver's licence.

Trope explained: "We weren't able to prove compliance with what the judge ordered.

"Specifically, the judge ordered that by 10am on Monday morning, both parties show valid California driving licences. I've been unable to produce evidence of that."

Britney, whose Louisiana licence is not valid in the state of California where she is currently living, applied for a valid licence soon after handing her sons over to Kevin's bodyguard on Monday.

Last month, the singer was charged with driving without a valid licence and leaving the scene of an accident after she hit another car.

She faces up to six months in jail if found guilty.

Britney and Kevin - whose divorce was finalised in July - had originally been granted joint custody of their sons.

Britney's erratic behaviour - which has seen her indulge in wild partying, allegedly take drugs, publicly shave her head and enter rehab - sparked Kevin's decision to fight to become the boys' primary carer.

Britney Spears has already hit up every club in LA so last night she headed over to the OC to party at Sutra Lounge.

Our spy says Spears showed up really early (around 9pm) and stayed there past midnight. "She had a breakdown because too many people were in her section and she wanted to get rid of 'the people she didn't know.'"

Britney Spears spent most of the night with two blonde girls and one brunette and made regular trips to the restroom. Our spy says she tried to be low-key and was on her phone texting a lot and mostly just taking pictures with her digital camera.

Pop tart Hot Britney Spears is in yet more trouble in Los Angeles after being charged for a hit and run. The 'Toxic' hit-maker will face two charges stemming from an incident in August when the star drove her black Mercedes convertible into a parked car.

The car, also a Mercedes, suffered damage in the crash but Brit failed to try and find the owner or leave a note, prosecutors alledge.

Hot Britney Spears was also charged with one count of driving without a valid California license.

Both charges carry a maximum of 6 months in jail.

Spears hit the parked car on August 6 while she was shopping at a Los Angeles pharmacy.

Cameras that caught the collision showed the star was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was clutching her new Yorkie puppy, London, while navigating her turn into a parking spot.

In the process she hit Kim Robard-Rifkin's silver Mercedes station wagon.

Robard-Rifkin, a Beverly Hills nurse, only learned of the incident when photographers who offered to be witnesses contacted her.

"I found out it was Britney Spears who hit my car and I was sort of amused, sort of shocked, sort of like, 'Oh, only this could happen in La La Land," Robard-Rifkin said at the time.

Hot Britney Spears' arraignment on the charges is set for October 10.

The Los Angeles Attorney sent Spears a letter notifying her of the charges.

Britney Spears must have known she was going to be the talk of the town, especially after her disappointing VMA performance.

Everyone will spend the next month discussing what really went wrong with Spears when she hit the stage that night. I don't care how many theories are floating around out there, it basically comes down to the fact that she just wasn't ready. She spent her time partying rather than rehearsing the days leading up to the VMA’s.

"The dance number was spectacular - without her," a spy told the NY Post. "When the stand-in was rehearsing with the dancers, in the hours they were all waiting for her, it was amazing. Aaron Cohen and his team of Israeli military-trained commandos were trying to serve papers to another Britney insider Tuesday afternoon when all hell broke loose.

The person - a man close to Spears by the name of Sam - was arriving at his home in Venice when he noticed Cohen and his team and freaked out. “He drove into Aaron’s car and sped off,” a source tells us. “He didn’t even obey the nearby stop sign!”

The man was not served. Police went to the scene to speak with Cohen and investigate the hit and run. Why is Britney Spears’s camp so skittish about the truth????

Oops, she dinged it again. Paparazzi took pictures and videos of a puppy-toting Britney Spears steering her car into another one as she tried to turn into a spot in a Studio City parking lot. Then assessing the damage to her own car only. Then heading off to shop.

But the tale of the tape made it clear to the owner of the parked car just who it was who scraped up her silver Mercedes-Benz.

Kim Robard-Rifkin, 59, told the entertainment Web site CelebTV.com on Wednesday that nobody from Britney Spears' camp had contacted her about the damaged car.

'It's sad because I was really hoping she'd step up and be a mensch, be a human being,' Robard-Rifkin said. 'It was simply like my car didn't matter to her, my inconvenience didn't matter to her.'

A video on CelebTV.com, taken Monday, shows the 25-year-old pop star (with a puppy on her lap) attempting to park her black convertible and hitting the adjacent car.

Robard-Rifkin, a registered nurse, said she was 'sort of amused and sort of shocked' when she learned it was Britney Spears who hit her car, and figured she would hear from the embattled entertainer.

'There were obviously a lot of paparazzi there and what kind of person wouldn't realize that this (would) be on TV and she had to be responsible and contact me,' she said.

'I'm not asking for money. I'm not asking for a new car. ... I simply want my car fixed, the same as I would fix somebody's car if I had done that.'

Robard-Rifkin filed a police report on Thursday.

While some teenagers think Hilton is "cool" because of her style, beauty and personality, some parents say her lifestyle of partying sets a bad example.

"Not everyone we see on TV is living the right life," said Janet Hayes of Milan.

Hilton, a hotel heiress, may be wealthy and beautiful, but that doesn't make her a good role model, she said.

Hayes and her 15-year-old daughter, Tiffanie, sometimes discuss the images they see in the media of young celebrities such as Hilton, singer Britney Spears and actress Lindsay Lohan.

It is important for parents to talk about the images that promote wild behavior, Janet said.

She remembers when Lohan, 20, starred in Disney's remake of "The Parent Trap" when she was 11.

Lohan entered rehab May 28 after crashing her car into a curb and was arrested for driving under the influence, according to the Associated Press.

Tiffanie said Lohan, Hilton and Spears are too wild.

"They need to calm down," she said.

Last year, Hilton said she is a good role model, according to a statement she made in an interview on NBC's "Today" show. She also said that "A lot of mothers come up to me and they're really happy ..."

Kelly Sheffield of Jackson can't imagine why a mother would think Hilton is a good influence on their daughter.

"Her lifestyle goes against everything the Bible teaches on how to live for God," she said.

"She's definitely not a good role model for girls."

Sheffield's daughter, Taylor, is 17 years old.

"I don't agree with her decisions," Taylor said. Her mom is her role model, she said.

"But I know people who do like Paris and think she's cool," she added.

Lizanne Taylor, 16, of Jackson thinks Hilton is cool.

"She's Paris Hilton. She's cute. She's fun. But I don't think what she did is right."

Her friend, Ashley Smith, 16, of Jackson thinks Hilton's sentence is too short.

"She's a normal person," she said. "She's just rich, but she shouldn't get special attention because she's Paris Hilton."

Smith isn't impressed with Hilton. She said her role model is Oprah Winfrey.

"The thing I like about her is that she is rich, but she doesn't just keep it all to herself."

Mallory Yancey, 16, of Jackson thinks the media has unfairly portrayed celebrity Nicole Richie. She is Hilton's co-star from the reality TV show, "The Simple Life" and the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie.

"... It makes me mad when all the tabloids say she's anorexic. She just gets stressed out."

Blair said there are issues with role models and the perception of body image.

"It is sending a message that girls have to be ultra thin to be pretty and successful.

"I don't think the media is being overly critical. This is one of those situations where the media is accurately assessing that there is an image problem out there."

The Internet has exaggerated the fame of some young celebrities, Blair said.

"There was a point when Britney Spears was the top person being searched on the Internet," he said. "With all the things that are going on, that's a sad statement for our society at this point."

Find a better role model

Hilton, Spears, Lohan, and Richie can't really be considered a positive role model, Blair said, but they are role models whether they like it or not.

"They are definitely negative role models between their public exposure of themselves, the law breaking and trying to avoid their punishment," he said. "They do not represent the best that our society has to offer."

Society has thousands of young positive role models to choose from whether they're movie stars, athletes, musicians or everyday high school and college students who are making a difference in their community, Blair said.

"Unfortunately, they don't get the same level of press that a Paris Hilton or Britney Spears receives," he said.

Barbara May of Jackson said teenagers shouldn't depend on these young celebrities for guidance. She is a mother and grandmother.

People who work in churches are more ideal role models, she said.

"Parents can be a good role model, too," she said.

Sheffield said as long as parents are representing a good lifestyle, they can be a positive influence for their children.

"That's why we're parents, for our children to look up to," she said. "So we can guide them. That's our job as intended by God."

Blair said that not everyone will look up to their mom or dad as their number one role model.

"We do need to find role models who are facing reality, people who are facing the same challenges we are, and facing them with grace and dignity."

Smokingun .com has obtained a copy of the official letter from Britney’s lawyer Linda Goldman to a lawyer for Clear Channel demanding the immediate removal of the billboards she calls "outrageous to the extreme."

The three billboards were put up by The Clear Channel owned MJ Morning radio show in Florida and features Spears snarling with a freshly shaved head on one corner and a picture of WFLZ morning show host Todd Schnitt (who uses the air name MJ Kelli) on the other. The 3 billboards vary between them the words: "Total Nut Jobs," "Shock Therapy," and "Certifiable."

The Pop Princess’ lawyer states in the letter that Clear Channel was already ordered to take down the billboard for "unauthorized commercial exploitation of [Hot Britney Spears'] likeness" and the company said it would take down the billboards.

Hot Britney Spears' "likeness has a multi-million-dollar value for authorized commercial exploitations,” Goldman writes and, as a result, she is entitled to "very substantial damages" from Clear Channel.

"If Clear Channel continues to ignore the reasonable demands being made on my client's behalf and or again provides us with inaccurate or misleading information," she wrote, "it does so at its peril."

(Reuters) - Lawyers for Hot Britney Spears have told a Florida radio station to take down billboards showing the pop star's shaven head as part of an advertisement for its morning talk show.

The billboards featured three identical pictures of Hot Britney Spears, apparently snarling, next to radio station WFLZ's logo and a picture of talk show host Todd Schnitt.

Atop the pictures run the labels "Total nut jobs," "Shock Therapy" and "Certifiable."

A spokeswoman for Clear Channel Communications, which owns WFLZ, said on Monday it had received a letter from law firm Lavely & Singer dated June 14. The letter demands that the billboards be removed and says images of Spears can be used only with consent.

"Clear Channel was already exposed to substantial liability for its offensive, unauthorized commercial exploitation of my client's photograph on the billboards," the letter said.

"Once again, we demand the immediate removal of the billboards, confirmed by documentary evidence and verified under penalty of perjury," it said.

Schnitt said in an interview that Clear Channel had already pulled down the billboards. "I'm not happy with that," he said.

In a TV landscape dotted with serialized dramas, crime procedurals and reality programming, the poor, forgotten miniseries is deader than the sitcom.

But the genre, which brought us such seminal TV events as "Roots," "The Thorn Birds" and "The Stand," pops its head out of the grave once in a while, usually in far more modest form.

For instance, USA Network is dabbling with the miniseries form with a romantic comedy called "The Starter Wife," starring former "Will & Grace" star Debra Messing as a Hollywood wife thrust into turmoil when her husband leaves her for a Britney Spears-type girlfriend. The six-hour series debuts at 9 tonight.

"The biggest television event of the summer," USA Network has hyped in TV ads. But Marc Berman, a TV analyst for Mediaweek.com, said "big events" are hard to come by when there are hundreds of channels to choose from, compared with the days when it was only ABC, NBC and CBS.

"It's very difficult in this fractionalized marketplace for viewers to commit to watch several hours in one week, which is why you don't see it anymore," Berman said.

In fact, USA is spreading the six hours of "The Starter Wife" over five weeks.

This past season, the major networks mostly ignored the miniseries, even during the so-called sweeps months, which help local advertisers set rates. "Miniseries don't exist anymore" on the big networks, Berman said. "They hardly even do made-for-TV movies anymore."

The heyday of the genre was the late 1970s through the early 1990s, when networks would regularly haul out the big budgets and the big stars (Richard Chamberlain! Robert Duvall!).

"It was a dominant form of television," said Ron Simon, curator for the Museum of Television and Radio in New York City. "It brought broadcast networks prestige as the era of three networks came to a close. At the time, cable couldn't afford to do it."

However, as broadcast networks saw their audiences dwindle across the board, the miniseries lost their financial allure, especially if viewers didn't glom on early.

Nowadays for the big networks, "the miniseries is disruptive to audience flow" in relation to regular series, said Brad Adgate, director of research at media planning firm Horizon Media. "Just think about Fox and the problems postseason baseball causes for them in the fall."

Berman said the last time he can recall a broadcast network trying a huge miniseries was NBC in 2003 with the drug-trafficking drama "Kingpin." It ran six hours over three weeks, and, he said, it bombed.

There is some debate over the definition of the term "miniseries." But it's generally acknowledged as a midway point between a film and a regular series, typically running two to eight episodes, frequently on consecutive days or over a relatively short period of time. Many are period pieces, often based on a novel.

"The Starter Wife" is based on a best-selling fictional book by Gigi Levangie Grazer; it's set in modern day, and its aspirations are not exactly the level of a "Shogun" or "Elizabeth I."

"We're looking to give TV viewers the equivalent of an escapist beach read," said Laurette Hayden, senior vice president for long-form programming for USA.

For Messing, taking on this role was a way to go deeper into a character while not having to make a long-term commitment as she did with "Will & Grace."

"I think you would sacrifice a lot if it was a two-hour movie," Messing said in a recent press conference. "As an actress, it was a thrill and luxury to be able to do what you're supposed to do in a six-hour project and not to rush things."

And since a miniseries lacks the potential return on investment of a regular series, even networks with the scheduling flexibility and budget of USA Network will do only maybe one a year.

In the case of USA's sci-fi miniseries "The 4400" in 2004, the drama was such a success, it became a regular show. Its new season will start June 17.

SciFi Network uses miniseries as a way to test the feasibility of a concept for a regular series. The remake of "Battlestar Galactica" started as a miniseries in 2003 and turned into a critically acclaimed series.

The close-ended nature of a miniseries still has appeal, said Simon, the TV museum curator. But in many ways, he noted, viewers have another outlet to see a cast of characters interact over a brief period with a definitive ending to bring closure. It's called reality TV. And it's much, much cheaper.

Sean Preston is so cute! Look at his outfit with the little vest/shirt combo...TOO CUTE...he looks so much like his dad! I understand people wanting to see Jayden but honestly, some of the accusations around it--it seems in these pictures, it was rather bright--they seem to be keeping him out of the sun and shading him with the blanket...seems pretty normal to me...very cute pic if SP...such a cutie he is! And I am sure Jayden is just as adorable!

No qualms about showing Sean? Well since he really hasn't been seen in over 3 months I'll say she's not thrilled to show him either. People say she should learn from her mistakes and maybe she did. Britney spears had Sean out a lot when he was a baby and it only lead to drama and more drama. Maybe she is trying to protect Jayden from that. there is really no point or no way to hide a toddler that has been seen hundreds of times from the media. if she covered sean up people would call her crazy like micheal jackon.

The only thing I will comment on is the infant carrier. I have three kids and know the warning labels. Once a child hits 26 inches OR 20 lbs. they cannot be in an infant carrier anymore. At 7 1/2 months old, I would assume that Jayden would have outgrown that carrier. You can always tell which parents do not bother reading the warning labels when you see them carting around a 10-12 month old in one!

I read the labels and directions on all of my kids things and all three of my children were in their infant carrier until they were one years old. My kids are very average sized but they were neither 20 pounds or 26 inches before they were one.

Sean is not a big child so I am sure that Jayden should still be in his carrier.

I think that Britney is hiding something from the public about Jayden. It could be something like a birthmark, a deformity or maybe even something like down syndrome. There really must be some reason that she has never let anyone take photos for her fans or anyone else for that matter to see. I know just after Jayden was born Brit and Kevin were having so much trouble and something was said that Brit didn't want photos taken because she would have to give Kevin half of the money. Well the divorce is final now so it shouldn’t be a big deal at all to have photos taken.

Haha come on now! You can't say he is too big for the car seat just to have reason to complain when you can't see him at all. Also just because she's "never" seen holding him doesn't mean she NEVER holds Jayden. We haven't even seen him out in public that much and when he is he's always in his car seat. Those things are very heavy and Britney is a small woman. Better to have the body guards carry it then risk falling down with it. I also doubt there is anything wrong with the kid. Kevin said she was keeping him private because she wanted "something that was only hers" and that she didn't have to share with the world. We saw a grainy shot on him once before and he looked normal.

Where in the world is Louis J. Pearlman? The man who gave us *NSYNC, Justin Timberlake, the Backstreet Boys, O-Town and even Britney Spears to some extent has vanished into, if not thin air, then air, in Europe. He's wanted in Florida for scamming 1,400 investors out of roughly $317 million.

If only Lou Pearlman could party again like it was 1999. The fat, frenzied manager of insipid boy bands was on top of the world then.

Forget that he was busy destroying the history of pop music with pre-wrapped junk designed to a have a shelf life shorter than the pet rock. He was raking in money and even keeping portions of it that didn't belong to him.

Eight years have gone by. And now Pearlman, who put Orlando on the map as a capital for Mouseketeers who graduated to Top 40 hits, for better or worse, is missing.

Don't worry; he's OK. Britney Spears, Justin timberlake and Nick Carter's former mentor is said to be on the lam in Europe while a bankruptcy receiver tries to untangle the humungous mess he left behind.

What's more: Federal prosecutors guess that Pearlman defrauded hundreds of investors to the tune of $317 million in a Ponzi scheme, or pyramid scheme, that didn't even involve music but phony investments.

Pearlman, in other words, is a real-life version of Mel Brooks' beloved Max Bialystock, the fictional Broadway producer who swindles little old ladies out of their life savings.

Indeed, this real-life Max recently suffered the suicide of his real life Leo Bloom. Frankie Vazquez Jr., Pearlman's closest associate since they were kids, took his own life in February. Journalists, experts and pundits in Florida figure Vazquez knew everything, especially that the end was near for Pearlman's scams.

Now, as lawyers try to figure out where the money went, Pearlman has slipped out of sight. His last correspondence came from Germany, where he was promoting another boy band. If the FBI knows where Pearlman is, it is not saying. And it doesn't matter. If he ever returns, everything he owned in Florida will have been sold or put on the block.

Pearlman has quickly moved to the top of the most-hated lists in Florida. He is a staple in the St. Petersburg newspaper. He has also inspired a Web site called scammedbypearlman.com.

It's not funny. The investors in his long-running scheme — in which he accepted money, promised returns and pocketed the funds — were not millionaires like Justin or Britney Spears but moms and pops who handed them their entire life savings.

Ironically, Pearlman apparently was bilking investors all through the 1990s at the very least, meaning during the time his boy bands were having hits on the radio like "I Want It That Way" and "Bye Bye Bye." They were also raking in money playing for sold-out arenas full of screaming teenage girls.

By making herself available more and more to those photographers as she goes about her day doing nothing over the ordinary, she’s actually decreasing the value she possesses in-front of the media. Simple supply and demand really. If you notice, she speaks of nothing we actually would be interested in, such as any new information about her album or tour.

Speaking of that, we’re hearing rumors she might throw an intimate tour with The House of Blues, I will try to confirm these reports as soon as I can. Here’s the other issue though: Britney spears threw a low punch at the people that manage hot britney spears career and business……that’s a moronic move, and that’s just my opinion. Her management team have known her since she was 15, they understand exactly what she’s about and there’s no substitute for that, even if you’re Irving Azoff. Britney is a lose cannon, she always has been, even if she has periods when she’s all chill for a couple of weeks, and that’s pretty much the number 1 danger and fear behind a manager that puts his name, effort and resources on the line.

Her best bet is to stay with Larry Rudolph, who was one of the very few that held her together during her peak. He’s the bread, she’s peanut butter and jelly, lol. Instead she turns a message to her fans into a complete farce. And she should be thanking Larry Rudolph for sticking by her instead of leaving her ass again. Still, the picture -- it was all over the news last week -- stops me. There she is, this pop princess, newly bald, dressed unglamorously in shorts and sweatshirt, rearing back with an umbrella, ready to give that car what it has coming. Supposedly, the vehicle belongs to a photographer who had been tailing hot and sexxy britney spears.

In that photo, there is something of the spoiled child lashing out. Something of the little girl, broken. Something of the baby crying for help.

As I said, I can't blame you if you laugh. Blaming you would be hypocritical.

Britney Spears doesn't get a lot of air time in my internal monologue. I don't listen to her music or watch her videos. Britney Spears's a presence at the edge of consciousness, more famous for being pretty and showing skin and sowing scandal than for any intrinsic quality of her singing. Suffice it to say, Gladys Knight's legacy is safe from her encroachment. Barbra Streisand does not suffer in the comparison.

To the degree I think about her at all, it's usually as a laugh line. People ask if I miss being a pop music critic, having spent the first 18 years of my professional life in that capacity. I tell them I give thanks every morning that I don't have to pretend to take Britney Spears seriously. It's always good for a chuckle.

That's what Britney Spears was to me: a punch line.

Am I the only one? Or isn't it true that between her two-day first marriage, her Madonna kiss on national television, her panties-optional dress code, she long ago became, even for her fans, a person whose attraction lay less in her modest talents than in the sense you never knew what she might do next? She was a little crazy. A little out of control. A little clueless in ways that made you feel better about the garbage of your own life.

As in, maybe I ain't no Nobel Prize winner, but at least I have sense enough to wear underwear when I go out.

And you could say this, talk about her as if she weren't in the room, because she was not, in some sense, real. Britney Spears was an abstract, an idea. Not a troubled young woman who has been in and out of rehab in recent days, a woman for whom fame and fortune have apparently proved inadequate to fill the emptiness inside.

The abstraction is not surprising: Whatever media touch, they objectify. Some years ago, I got an e-mail from an outraged reader who, as the saying goes, called me everything but a child of God. I e-mailed him back, and we ended up having a perfectly civil exchange. I remember he seemed embarrassed, as if he had not quite realized that the byline represented an actual human being who might actually read his invective. He had hurled it at an idea of me.

But I am not an idea.

If that can be forgotten about someone whose claim to fame is just that he scribbles in newspapers, how much more easily is it forgotten about those who live in the klieg lights of real fame? What must it be like to have your marriage and divorce, your relationship with your parents and kids, your sagging backside and ballooning thighs, dissected by millions of strangers who think they know you? I wouldn't think so. Life is not a show. But if we ever knew that, we forgot it in our rush to a day of "reality" television, tabloid journalism and famous for nothing celebrities. Troubled pop star Britney Spears reportedly believes she does not need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse because she is suffering from postpartum depression.

The Toxic singer has been in rehab in Malibu, California for two weeks and is furious with friends and family for making her seek counselling.

By entering Promises, for the second time, on Thursday, Britney Spears joined a long list of other celebrities who have trekked to the lush Malibu facility to overcome addictions. Promises alumni includes Ben Affleck, Charlie Sheen, Diana Ross and Matthew Perry.

Treatment doesn't come cheap. A 30-day stay is $48,000.

What kind of perks can patients expect for $1,600 a night at the 16-person facility? A personal trainer, beautician, private counseling session and no chores. The sprawling grounds of the Mediterranean-style villa tucked in the Santa Monica Mountains include tennis and basketball courts, two pools and nearby horseback riding facilities.

Steve Cron, a Santa Monica criminal defense attorney, has visited numerous clients at Promises and played pingpong by one of the pools.

'I've often said if I had nothing else to do and a substance abuse problem and had $40,000 lying around I'd go there for a vacation,' he says. 'All kidding aside, it's an outstanding program.'

The Web site of syndicated TV show Extra said there was video showing her driving through the gates of the luxury Promises center with Britney Spears mother.

The president was picked as hero of the year by a much smaller margin. In the poll, 13 percent named him as their favorite while 6 percent cited the troops in Iraq.

On the question of celebrity role models, a pop singer's bad behavior claimed worst honors.

When asked to choose from a list of names, nearly three in 10 adults, or 29 percent, bestowed the honor of worst celebrity of the year on Britney Spears.
